At Afterlife, we operate on a Zero-Knowledge architecture.

Encryption: All messages stored on our platform are encrypted using AES-256-GCM (Advanced Encryption Standard with Galois/Counter Mode).

Privacy: Encryption occurs before data reaches our permanent storage. Consequently, neither Afterlife employees nor our infrastructure providers (e.g., Supabase) have the technical capability to access the plain-text content of your messages.

3. Data We Collect

To provide the Dead Man's Switch service, we collect limited information:

  • Account Data: Your email address is used for authentication and sending "Are you okay?" check-ins.
  • Recipient & Witness Data: We store the email addresses of your designated recipients and witnesses solely to facilitate message delivery.
  • System Metadata: We store timestamps of your "Last Check-in" to monitor the status of your Dead Man's Switch.

4. Third-Party Service Providers

We partner with industry leaders to ensure service reliability. Each provider is compliant with global privacy standards:

  • Infrastructure: Supabase (Database & Authentication).
  • Email Delivery: Resend (Transactional emails).
  • Payments: LemonSqueezy (Merchant of Record). Note: Afterlife does not store your credit card or billing details; these are handled securely by LemonSqueezy.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

You maintain full control over your data.

  • You may edit or delete your encrypted messages at any time through the Afterlife Dashboard.
  • Upon account deletion, all associated messages, witness data, and metadata are permanently purged from our active databases.

We implement rigorous technical and organizational measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, loss, or alteration. Our infrastructure is hosted on secure cloud environments with constant monitoring.
